Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about geodesic domes in Mauritius

General Questions

What is a geodesic dome?

A geodesic dome is a hemispherical structure composed of a network of triangles, creating one of the strongest and most efficient architectural forms known. Originally popularized by architect Buckminster Fuller, these structures distribute stress evenly throughout their framework.

Our domes combine this proven geometry with modern materials to create beautiful, durable spaces perfect for Mauritius' tropical climate.

Are geodesic domes suitable for Mauritius' climate?

Absolutely! Geodesic domes are ideal for tropical island climates:

  • Cyclone Resistant: The spherical shape naturally deflects wind, making them far stronger than traditional rectangular buildings
  • Energy Efficient: 30-50% less surface area means dramatically reduced air conditioning costs
  • Natural Ventilation: The dome shape promotes excellent air circulation
  • Rain Management: Water runoff is optimal, preventing pooling and water damage
  • Humidity Control: Better air flow reduces humidity-related issues

What can geodesic domes be used for?

Our domes are versatile and can serve many purposes:

  • Residential homes and vacation properties
  • Eco-resort glamping accommodations
  • Yoga and wellness studios
  • Event spaces and wedding venues
  • Restaurants and beach cafes
  • Home offices and creative studios
  • Sustainable guesthouses
  • Garden pavilions and meditation spaces

Cyclone & Weather Resistance

Can geodesic domes withstand cyclones?

Yes! Geodesic domes are among the most cyclone-resistant structures available. The aerodynamic spherical shape allows wind to flow around the structure rather than creating pressure points that can cause damage.

Our domes are engineered to withstand Category 4-5 cyclones common in the Indian Ocean region. The triangulated framework distributes loads evenly, meaning there are no weak points where structural failure can begin.

Unlike traditional buildings with vulnerable flat walls and roofs, the dome's continuous surface and interconnected structure make it exceptionally resilient.

How do domes perform during heavy rain?

Excellent! The curved surface ensures water runs off immediately with no pooling. Our domes feature:

  • Integrated drainage systems
  • Waterproof panel joints
  • Optional rainwater collection systems
  • No flat surfaces where water can accumulate

This makes them ideal for Mauritius' rainy season and monsoon conditions.

We provide all technical drawings and specifications needed for permit applications. We recommend consulting with your local authorities before ordering, and we're happy to assist with technical questions.

Are geodesic domes legal in Mauritius?

Yes, geodesic domes are legal structures in Mauritius. They're classified as buildings and must meet the same building codes and safety standards as traditional structures.

Our domes are engineered to meet or exceed Mauritian building standards, including cyclone resistance requirements.

Installation & Timeline

How long does it take to get my dome?

Total timeline from order to completion:

  • Manufacturing: 4-6 weeks for production and quality control
  • Shipping to Mauritius: Included in delivery timeline
  • Installation: 1-2 weeks on-site
